(San Juan, PR) - The executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC), Carla Campos and the executive director of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, Anthony O. Maceira Zayas were on hand yesterday to welcome the newest flagship of the Silversea Cruises ultra-luxury brand, the Silver Muse, into the San Juan piers. The ship, traveling from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has capacity for 596 passengers and 411 crew members.
The first time the Silver Muse docked in San Juan was on April 4th. That time it was making an “in-transit” visit, but on April 8th as well as on its upcoming April 14th stop, San Juan will be its homeport.
“The arrival of the luxurious Silver Muse is proof of the resurgence the Puerto Rico cruise industry is experiencing. This motivates us to continue working in partnership with the private sector to promote the growth of the cruise industry and increase visitor arrivals as established under Governor Ricardo Rosselló’s administration and his administration”, said Carla Campos.
The Designated Executive Director added that “PRTC is excited and glad to confirm that members of the cruise industry continue betting on Puerto Rico as great travel destination for their clients. Our wide variety of offerings, modern infrastructure, warmth of our people, and priviledged geographic location make Puerto Rico an attractive stop for cruise travellers”.
The recently appointed executive director of the Puerto Rico Ports Authority, Anthony Maceira, commented, “We must recognize that after the emergency the cruise industry was the first Tourism industry sector that reestablished their travel schedule to the Island. They trusted in Puerto Rico and we are glad to be able to welcome the Silver Muse back to our piers in such a short time. Our goal is to keep our side of the bargain by optimizing our piers as son as posible and together continue increasing arrivals to the Island”.
“The pier in which the Silver Muse docked was severrely damaged by hurricanes Irma and María. Employees of the Ports Authority, working in partnership with private contractors, made it possible for it to open as soon as it did for commercial and passenger ship use. Governor Rosselló’s public policy is to rebuild our infrastructure as resilient as possible while endowing it with the largest capabilities possible. That is our goal”, added Maceira.
