San Juan, PR – The designated executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Carla Campos, announced today that parts of the Paseo La Princesa (La Princesa Promenade) have been reopened to the public. The part of the pathway running parallel to the shoreline was restricted to the public due to damage inflicted to the structure by the strong storm surge at the beginning of March. In keeping with the proposed phased opening schedule announced by the Executive in March, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company completed the clean-up and security measures phases to be able to open it to the public. Major structural repairs will start after the completion of on-going architectural and structural evaluations.

“The Paseo La Princesa in Old San Juan has a great historic value and is an area enjoyed by both residents and visitors of the Island. Because of this, we promptly established a task force to implement the clean-up and damage evaluation phases as quickly as possible. Today we are pleased to inform the walk-path is open to the public”, stated Campos.

“The U. S. National Pak Service feels honored to join forces with the Government of Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. In all emergencies, recovery efforts and logistic operations we are facing, we are a lot more effective when we assist each other with advice and aid”, said Randy Lavasseur, general superintendent of the USNPS, Caribbean.

It is important to mention that a distinguished group of Architecture, structural engineering, civil engineering, culture and history experts are hard at work in the study and design of the restauration plan for the historic site. “The work being done by this team of experts and the diligent efforts of Governor Ricardo Rosselló’s administration will ensure a renewed, resilient and strong Paseo La Princesa. While works are completed we decided to open the Paseo to the public so this iconic space can be available for the enjoyment of our people”, added PRTC’s Designated Executive Director
